I'm A Gun - Slope Records
Slope Records have announced they will be releasing I’m A Gun, The Blankz third single release in as many months, and the third in a series of nine singles that will be released by the Phoenix punks over the coming months. Once all nine in the series have been issued a full length compilation comprised of the singles plus their artwork will come out. I’m A Gun will be available from September 14th on CD, vinyl, cassette and digital download formats.
It’s hard to keep up with a band as prolific as The Blankz, whilst some punk rock veterans have been taking up to two decades to produce an album, the phoenix quintet are taking things back to how to how it used to be done with rapid fire single releases. As ever this is a two track double a side single, the lead track is I’m A Gun which reminds you of the Ramones and The Dickies and manages to be both topical and to be laden with sexual innuendo. The flip side, Bad Boy, harks back to the origins of punk rock with a more than hint of the New York Dolls and Richard Hell‘s snotty garage influenced proto punk that’s mixed their trademark new wave influence, both tracks combined mean that The Blankz have put out another near perfect single.
Reviewing a single usually makes it difficult to actually get a handle on a band, inevitably the tracks are cherry picked from what they’ve got on the shelf, but as The Blankz have now unveiled a third of their album I’m starting to think that every track is a potential single as so far both the a and b sides of each single have hit the spot nicely. I can’t wait to hear what else they have up their sleeves over the next six months as they continue to tantalisingly drip feed their debut full length.
