Body Negativity - Self Released

TV Coma were born from the frustration of long term unemployment, the band are now set to release their debut EP, Body Negativity, that was the first fruit borne of their DIY recording sessions. Whilst the EP possesses the DIY spirit it has been given a polish in it’s mastering that means that TV Coma‘s first release is one that sits astride the worlds of DIY spirit and professional recording, the result is a spirited six tracks that embraces the melody of pop punk and the bouncy energy of the livelier side of the indie scene, this is coupled with a self deprecating world view and some distinctly British lyrical themes.

TV Coma kick things off with an invitation to Have A Party, a curiously sombre feeling track about the enforced happiness that the coming of the weekend brings for many. Digital Girl kicks things up a notch with an bouncy ode to sexless internet relationships, a theme that continues with Trudy, a track dedicated to meeting the wrong person at a party whilst Unemployable addresses the financial impact of being out of work, in particular the horror of not being able to afford good biscuits. Football Song is an ode to the UK’s obsession with the beautiful game, a track that recalls the feel of The Fratellis indie hit, Chelsea Dagger, and finally Body Negativity closes with the anthemic Grow Up, which to my ears sounds like something TV Coma are avoiding, and who can blame them.

The Body Negativity EP embraces everything from The Small Faces, britpop, the new wave of new wave, pop punk, Andrew WK and Wonk Unit‘s brand of lyrically idiosyncratic punk, the result is an EP that you can’t really define. TV Coma have produced an EP that looks at life’s problems from a uniquely skewed perspective, one that is backed up by a sprawling and unique array of influences. With their first release TV Coma have carved their own niche in the UK’s music scene, my advice is to put the kettle on, open the good biscuits and give this off kilter EP of indie punk a spin.

Body Negativity will be released on the 7th September and can be pre-ordered via Bandcamp here
