EP Review: Slalom D – Pressure

Slalom D have been playing the North East UK local live music scene for a few years now and have built up a reputation for being a no holds barred full of Angst Punk band with a social conscience to boot.

Having been knocked to the floor with the sad and untimely loss of their hugely influential front man Craig Macbeth at the beginning of this year, they picked themselves up took the step of recruiting a friend of Craig’s and the band Fiona Duncan to take on the task of filing the the massive void that had been left in all there lives.

So with this in mind they took to the studio and recorded 3 tracks at Trinity Heights in Newcastle with Tony Lindstedt (Bass/Vocal) Gary Christopher (Guitar) Iain Murray (Drums) and Fiona taking on her role as new lead vocal.

So this release is something of a milestone in their history and a bridge that had to be crossed.  If you took all the controlled Angst that comes with age and experience of growing up with years of being at the sharp end of world that has been controlled and manipulated by the elite for the elite and poor lives become just another commodity that have no value to them. Then you get the wonderful “No Pasaran” and “Pressure” both of these tracks were never recorded until now, with Fiona’s vocal your getting full on I’m here and I deserve to be! attitude and then there is “Chelsea Bonfire”  being the story of how the Grenfell Tower disaster came about from profiteering and should be viewed as state murder, all this sung with pure Angst and by a front woman who feels every word, this comes across absolutely perfectly in the deliverance, and the addition of the original spoken word piece by Craig is a welcoming touch.

It’s Melodic, Heavy and Moody all at the same time, your taken on a short journey of thoughtfulness and carried along with feelings of being part of this moment, Marry all this with sublime Bass lines, full on all energy drumming and then a beautiful guitar sound, then you get a package that leaves you just wanting to hit repeat and saying to yourself when do we get more! 

Going by this 1st offering with the latest line up, greater things are still to come.
