The Band For Disease Control And Prevention

Glitter Tits - Big Bad Riff Records

The Band For Disease Control And Prevention (TBFDCAP) are a band that have been around in various forms since 2013, but with this EP release the comparisons to what came before are simply none existent.

The line up as of this EP is Karena Serdecka vocals/guitar, Antony Bircham guitar,/samples, Andy Cooper bass and John Melrose drums.

If like myself you have been a fan of the band for many years and have witnessed them play live on numerous occasions, then the fact that they were at the point of break up this time last year, would have been a sad day for sure, yet here we are, a fresh start and a whole new beginning.  And what a difference a year makes, hitting the play button and wondering what might be to come is always exciting, this was to be a moment not to forget, I actually did stop for a second just to double check that I’d started playing the right band, it was quite simply a WTF wow!.

From the opening seconds of ‘(This Bitch Has Got Her) Glitter Tits (On)’ your wondering why they just simply didn’t start off with a new band name too, nothing you hear here has any resemblance to what you were expecting, a vocal from Karena that grabs you by the crotch and drags you to the dance floor, with all the musical emphasis being on simply backing up what is an empowering lyric that is sung with all the sexiness of humanities greatness, by the time the song is over your in no doubt that this band have found their mojo.

Second up is ‘Stories’ which actually does have a lyrical comparison to the band of old, that is where the likeness ends, musically it pushes you downhill without the aid of brakes, has undertones of Joy Division and a story of how stories can be poison especially if they are controlled stories.

Throughout this EP, there a minuscule moments that hark back to the TBFDCP of old, yet fleeting they are, ‘Space Invaders’ being a snippet, yet again though Karena’s vocal snaps you back to the present, this song shows a much more playful side to what can be a very insightful band, then with ‘Red Green’  the darkness that seeps into the song writing is apparent and yet it speaks of a way out.

As I listen my way through this EP, what does hit you in the face is, just how eclectic the soundscape and vocals move from song to song, this show a much stronger depth of sound that this line up bring to the table, ‘Read All About It’ gives this in droves, a musical simplicity that wraps up a vocal masterclass on how to be versatile and step up to the story telling.

Yes this is an EP you should go buy and absolutely I was left wondering how long to the next instalment and when do I get to see them live again!!

A new band with new songs that 100% are now reborn.
