The Honorary Title

Anything Else But The Truth - Doghouse Records

Anything Else But The Truth is the debut full length album from Brooklyn’s The Honorary Title. Comprised of Jarrod Gorbel and Aaron Kamstra, The Honorary Title bring you something new and yet very familiar.

Jarrod Gorbel’s powerfully poetic lyrics come straight form the heart. Think of Chris Carraba, but not whiny; or maybe Matt Pryor of The New Amsterdams. They are captivating and mind boggling. Some are about relationships, others about living with your parents when your twenty, others about privacy (“I share with complete strangers, my most personal pleasures” – Frame By Frame), and even one just about hoping for snow to cancel school or as they put it, “The daily drudgery“. He is a poet with lyrics that move you and lyrics that are true to himself but can be understood by anyone.

Right from the opening track, Frame By Frame, you are captured and they never let you stop till the ride is done at Cats In Heat. It is slow, melodic music, and it is clear as to why they are on Doghouse Records. First it was The Get Up Kids then more recently The All-American Rejects, if you give this talented duet some time they too will blow up and be devoured by America’s melancholy kids. The musical portions are fairly simple, they don’t put too much in it or cram it with useless effects. They just play what they need, and that is just enough to make the songs amazing. Each song is different from the previous in simple ways, the beat, the vocal tone, whatever it is, it makes it so that the album is diverse enough to listen to over and over again without getting bored.

The Honorary Title is your perfect soft core emo band. Emo is it’s true sense. Emo as in emotional. Definitely recommended.
