The Starting Line – Make Yourself At Home [DVD]

The Skate And Surf in New Jersey has always been a huge attraction to the punk community, and every year there’s something unexpected going on. Last year The Starting Line played an all acoustic show to a packed room and caught it all on film. It was all neatly put together and released as a DVD using the same name as their acoustic ep, Make Yourself At Home.

The DVD holds 5 songs, 3 of which from the new EP except the first song, one of my favourites, The Drama Summer, and the last one, The Best Of Me, both from their full length Say It Like You Mean It. For me, it was very entertaining to watch. I love all things live, and what’s better than being there in person than watching it from muliple angles in your living room. One thing I noticed which I thought amusing, was the keyboard beats heard on the album were being played at the show through a personal cd walkman which can be seen sitting on Kenny’s stool. Anything that works, I guess.

My favourite part of watching this is seeing how much these guys have grown over the past few years. To see the ammount of people packed into that room, singing along as loud as they can, it’s amazing to see. They finish off with their big single The Best Of Me and I swear, not a single person in there is silent. You can hear the crowd over Kenny’s mic, and they don’t miss a beat. It’s great.

For fans of The Starting Line this is a must have. Fans of acoustic music should definately check this out as well. I love it, and I know i’ll be watching in many times over and over again.
