The Starting Line

Make Yourself At Home - Drive-Thru Records

One of Drive-Thru Record’s oldest and most popular pop-punk bands have just given their fans a new EP showing a new side of the band. Like many bands have been recently, The Starting Line has delivered an acoustic album to it’s growing fan base. With four new songs, and then their hit single (The Best Of Me), The Starting Line has produced a five song EP of smooth, melodic, acoustic music.

Kenny Varsoli stays in his normal train of thoughts for his lyrics, singing mostly about the female sex. He never renders it repetitive; but makes it feel as if each song is about something very different from the other (when it reality, it rarely is). His guitar work is fantastic. Each song has a unique tune to it, this reminds you of what a simple guitar is capable off doing. Standout tracks would be Playing Favorites and The Best Of Me. The first of the two aforementioned tracks was released on the popular Punk Goes Acoustic compilation. It’s a simple track with a pretty basic guitar riff; but very catchy and melodic. Of course, the latter of the two is their hit single, which most of you already know. They do a nice job at converting it from the original version to the acoustic version which you are lucky enough to hear on the EP.

Overall, this EP isn’t exactly what you’d expect from these pop-punkers, but isn’t far off. It’s a really must-have for any acoustic fan or TSL fan.
