Thee Merry Widows

Revenge Served Cold - Cargo Music

For some, the name “The Merry Widows” may sound odd – but once you hear them, the name makes perfect sense and, in fact, compliments the music perfectly to the point where any other name would simply be absurd. You see, Thee Merry Widows are an all-girl psychobilly group, ready and roaring to break through and step to the forefront of the ever thriving male-dominated scene.

Revenge Served Cold delivers 11 tracks of danceable psychobilly rock songs merging the likes of Tiger Army with The Horrorpops. The distinctive twang of the upright bass, combined with the echo of the guitar and the eerie vocal delivery of burlesque queen Miss Eva van Slut come blasting through the speakers, spitting out both angst and fear into the listener. It is Eva von Slut which makes the five piece standout with the psychobilly sound as he vocals are strong and eerie, with similarities to Nick13 of Tiger Army but with some help from Hellcat of the Creepshows thrown in there too. They are echoey, somewhat distant and venomous too, creating an angry, gloomy feel.

The song contents follow the general theme of most psychobilly bands, and help cement the name of Thee Merry Widows even more as they talk about killing husbands, getting revenge and fighting back against everyone who “talks shit”. Making persistent references to the devil, hell, darkness, cold blood, and even one song dedicated to grave robbers from outer space, Revenge Served Cold is a trip through a fantasy land of ghouls and goblins.

Thee Merry Widows is a solid psychobilly outfit, proving that these girls know how to rock hard and Revenge Served Cold sees them doing just that. It’s eerie, creepy, energetic, fast, and led by a singer with amazing pipes and a beat that is unforgettable. Psychobilly fans, this is for you.
