This Is Hell

Self Titled - State of Mind Recordings

This was yet another band I hadn’t heard a single song from until I slipped the cd into my computer tray. I must say, I really liked this album, after hearing the last cd Bobby gave me, I didn’t expect much from this one, but it turns out This Is Hell sounds a lot like old With Honor and has group chanting parts just like Bane and Comeback Kid. The songs have decent guitar riffs, clean sounding vocals, and a fairly fast beat to all of their songs. There’s not much about this cd I don’t like, except that there’s only six songs which come together to form a grand total of a 13.5 minute album. Ever since I started writing this I’ve listened to the cd three times already(I’m a slow writer) and it still hasn’t got old yet.

When it came to songs on this cd, I found that the best was Dead Salutes. Although the sound of the songs don’t change much, it might be because they don’t change up the pace of their songs, or throw in anything fancy like a guitar or drum solo. If it wasn’t for the pauses in between songs it could be passed off as one fairly long, yet very good song. Most of the songs have kind of generic lyrics, everything they’re sayings been said before, so lyrics aren’t something to dwell on. Its still well written though, no excessive use of the word “fuck” in place of verbs, nouns, ect like many other bands tend to do now-a-day.

But I’d definitely recommend this band to anyone interested in hardcore, and I hope I can see this band play one day. I’d never heard anything off State of Mind Records, but this was a good album to introduce me to a new record company. I don’t know if I’d recommend buying it though, because it is a very short cd, and cd’s are expensive. But it still is good, much better than emo.
