Cleveland, OH based Pop-Punk unit  Light Years have weaved their way through the scene for almost a decade. Formed by vocalist Pat Kennedy, he enlisted in Tommy Englert, Andrew Foerst and Kent Sliney to round out the group in 2009. They have notched up tours with heavy-hitters like Neck Deep, State Champs, Modern Baseball, Citizen and Turnover, alongside appearances on The Vans Warped Tour and So What?! Music Festival. Recently, they unveiled record, Afterlife, via Rude Records. The eleven track masterpiece was recorded and produced by Will Yip (who also produced the band’s 2015 classic, ‘I’ll See You When I See You’). Now frontman Pat is here to give us a deeper insight into who Light Years are…

A Song Which Made You Want To Make Music: “Whats My Age Again” My Dad, who was an incredible guitar player, heard me listening to this song, and just started playing it on a guitar and I couldn’t belive my eyes. Made him show me how he did it and the rest is history.

Best Album Ever Written: “Enema of the State”

Craziest Moment You’ve Experienced In The Band: Seeing people in another country that don’t speak English as a first language sing our songs.

Deepest Lyrics One Of Your Songs Features: “If I knew then what i do now, maybe everything wouldn’t be so bad”

Easiest Song You Wrote: “My Whole Life” This song pretty much flowed out of us as we jammed in practice one day, and it is still one of my favorites.

Favourite Show You’ve Ever Played: Merksplas, Belgium at a venue called Jah Zigzag. So much fun, lots of kids going crazy and singing along. Very memorable show.

Happiest Moment In You’ve Experienced In The Band: Putting out our newest record “Afterlife.”

Interesting Fact About One Of Your Members: Tommy our bass player has a pilots license and flies planes. What the hell?!

Jokes You Have In The Band: “Next stop, Ballville.”

Kicking Off Your Set Is Best With Which Song: Biographies. A classssic Light Years song from our first EP.

Place You’d Most Like To Tour: Australia

Quote That You’d Like To Pass On To Readers: “Practice makes perfect, but no one is perfect, so why practice?”

Reason For The Title Of Your Recent/Forthcoming Release: We thought “Afterlife” sounded cool, and fit into the theme of the record being about our lives and what might happen after we are done playing music.

See Us Live At: The Foundry Cleveland OHio Dec 15!

The Old Days Of Music Were Better Than Those Current,  do you agree: Yes and No. I think a lot of bands today just like to follow certain popular trends, so you have a bunch of carbon copy bands playing the same style. But there are still a lot of unique sounding bands that are out there pushing the envelope.

Unusual Merchandise: Yes

Variations You’d Like To Do On Any Of Your Songs: Maybe make one into a super cheesy breakdown filled song to make lots of money.

What Bands Have You Seen Live and Regretted: Senior Citizen

X-rays or any other treatments needed for band related in juries: Andrew sprained his elbow or something skating outside a show in Florida once. Dumbass!

You could have written any song in history, which would you pick: God Only Knows

Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band: A Penguin. Because we are super cool.
