Ahead of this year’s
Rebellion Festival we’re asking a selection of the band’s who are appearing about what we can expect, and for their advice on surviving the four day festival. In the fifth of
The Punk Site‘s 2019
Rebellion Festival previews we speak to
Last Reserves, a punchy four-piece hailing from Liverpool who have been making a name for themselves with their tumultuous live shows and compelling lyrics surrounding modern day issues. Having just played their first London headliner following the release of their latest single, ‘
Shock Horror’,
Last Reserves are gaining a loyal following across the country and are one to catch. You can read about what to expect from
Last Reserves at the
Rebellion Festival below.
Is this your first experience of the Rebellion Festival or have you played before?
This is our very first time at Rebellion, we played at a rival event on the same weekend at the Cedar Tavern which is located opposite the Winter Gardens back in 2017, but this is our first time at the festival. We’ve wanted to play the festival for some time, so to get the chance to play is a real honour & we can’t wait to play!
What can we look forward to from your set?
We’ve recently released a new single called ‘Shock Horror’, which addresses the prejudices we’re brought up on in society & this song is about fighting that and letting people be who they want to be. That’s one of the main ones in our set. The vast majority of the rest of our set is made up of our current EP, ‘Bad Days’ that was released last October. This EP addresses the struggle of mental health, social media addiction & living in our modern society. It’s something we’re very proud of & we love playing the tracks live. All our tracks are very energetic & that is reflected live, especially recently. We seem to be becoming more energetic with every gig, so expect us to be bouncing, dancing and jumping around a lot at Rebellion!
What makes the Rebellion Festival special for you?
We play across the UK to many punks far and wide, but Rebellion is the main punk event of the year, it’s the place to be for punks, so to be able to play it & show a bigger audience our music is going to be special & we can’t wait. Plus, being on the same bill as the likes of The Stranglers & The Damned is going to stay with us forever. We can’t wait!
Will you have the chance to catch anyone else whilst you’re there and is there anyone else on the bill you’d recommend people go and see?
We’re hoping to catch as many bands as we can, we’ll probably be hanging around the introducing stage where we are playing, hopefully make some new friends and find some other cool bands! I think our bassist Matt will be keen on seeing Saturday’s headliners though, Motorheadache, he’s a big Motorhead fan. But we’ll be making the most of the festival and trying to see as much as we can! However, for people going on Thursday, make sure you check out fellow Liverpool punks, Queen Zee, they’re fantastic, especially live. They’re a inspiration for us, they’re doing amazing at the moment & if you’re at the festival on the Thursday, they’re the band you need to see.
If you could pick one band to appear at the Rebellion Festival who would it be?
Tricky one, but American punks ‘Pegboy’ or ‘X’ spring to mind, we love those bands, but they don’t play often over in the UK!
Do you have a favourite memory from a previous Rebellion Festival?
We’ve never been to Rebellion before, so this will be the first time for all of us. The closest we’ve been to rebellion is when Matt went to Download and Phil going to Sonisphere.
Are you currently on tour if so where else are you playing this year?
We’ve got dates in St Helens, Liverpool, Rotherham & Wigan between now and the end of the year. We’ve got a headline gig on 9th November in Liverpool which promises to be a good show!
What can we look forward to from you in the next twelve months?
Be prepared for more live gigs, we’re always looking to get out and gig more. We’re working hard on new music, expect new songs to come into our set over the next few months. We’ll hopefully have a new logo out soon, along with a full live album recording which will be released online. We’ll probably look into getting a new single out for the end of the year or early 2020 too.
Do you have any festival survival tips?
Drink plenty of water! Though, most of my other tips relate to surviving in mud, but that won’t apply at Rebellion hahah!
Is there anything else in Blackpool you’d recommend people experience whilst they’re in the town?
Well Blackpool is known for the fair and the tower isn’t it, but The Waterloo which is located near the football ground is a great rock pub, which we’ve played a few times is a good one, head there if the main bit of town is a bit busy.
Finally when and where are you appearing?
We’re on at 4:15pm on Saturday 3rd August on the introducing stage.
Thanks for taking the time to speak to us, we’ll see you down the front
