Ahead of this year’s Rebellion Festival we’re asking a selection of the band’s who are appearing about what we can expect, and for their advice on surviving the four day festival. In the seventh of The Punk Site‘s 2019 Rebellion Festival previews we speak to Ben Hannah from Nosebleed. The trio have been tearing apart venues across Europe since 2014 including furious sets at ShambalaBestival, Boomtown Fair and BeatherderNosebleed are now bringing their energetic and unique brand of garage rock n’ roll to the Rebellion Festival where you can expect them to see them spend most of their set right up in the faces of their audience. You can read about what else you can expect from Nosebleed at the Rebellion Festival below.

Is this your first experience of the Rebellion Festival or have you played before?

This is Nosebleed’s first time, I have played previously with my old band Acid Drop.

What can we look forward to from your set?

Fast loud garage rock n roll, short songs, sweaty fat blokes with a surprising amount of energy and flexibility for their build, apart from our drummer, Dicky who is our token thin bloke. I don’t think we’re planning on being on stage much.

What makes the Rebellion Festival special for you?

The number of people we know who go and the number who play is astounding, much like Manchester Punk Festival it’s for the punk rock family. You know if you go, you won’t get further than 5 meters down the street without seeing someone you know, if punk rock was a town, Rebellion would be the community centre.

Will you have the chance to catch anyone else whilst you’re there and is there anyone else on the bill you’d recommend people go and see?

Unfortunately due to our gigging commitments we’re only able to make the Sunday but we’re looking forward to catching Rotten Foxes, Pizza Tramp and Snakerattlers. On the other days here’s our must sees:

Queen Zee
Masked Intruder
Bar Stool Preachers
The Murderburgers
Wonk Unit
Counting Coins
The Fuckin Glorious
The X-Ray Eyes
The Menstrual Cramps
Kiss Me Killer
Spoilers
Eastfield
Babar Luck
Millie Manders
Incisions

If you watch these bands none of them will disappoint you, most of them are knocking about on the same DIY scene as us and work week in week out at their craft.

If you could pick one band to appear at the Rebellion Festival who would it be?

I think FIDLAR would go down a treat!

Do you have a favourite memory from a previous Rebellion Festival?

I’m a massive Flogging Molly fan, so seeing Flogging Molly play was amazing. When my old band played looking to stage left in the arena and seeing Dennis Casey, Flogging Molly’s guitarist watching my band from the side of the stage was pretty mind blowing.

Are you currently on tour if so where else are you playing this year?

We’re pretty much always on tour! We play almost every weekend, I’ve attached a list of dates to this interview for you!

What can we look forward to from you in the next twelve months?

We’re currently in the studio recording our second album, it’s very different to the first, Scratching Circles on The Dancefloor (TNSrecords). The first album was pretty much 14 songs in 20 minutes, fast rock n roll punk songs. We recorded that live over a weekend at Nave Studio in Leeds with Andy Hawkins. This next album, we’re spending a lot more time on it, we’ve been a lot more patient with our song writing and thought more about building on existing ideas. It’s not wall to wall punk songs, there’s some slower, more melodic ones. It’s just more dynamic which makes it feel heavier.

Aside from the album we’ve got loads of gigs, video and single releases planned. A fair few festivals over summer, we’re playing Beatherder this weekend, Camp Bestival on the Earache Records take-over with Napalm Death, Lawnmower Deth, Diamond Head and Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, which is also pretty mind-blowing.

Do you have any festival survival tips?

Always pack toilet roll. Stay Hydrated. Go see bands you haven’t seen before.

Is there anything else in Blackpool you’d recommend people experience whilst they’re in the town?

Get in the sea. Get in the arcades. Go to one of the afterparties in a local venue.

Finally when and where are you appearing?

Sunday – 2:45-3:15pm – Rebellion Introducing Stage
But go watch Welsh legends PizzaTramp at Club Casbah at 2pm then come immediately over to see us.

Thanks for taking the time to speak to us, we’ll see you down the front
