American Culture have been Denver’s best kept secret, until now. The Colorado cult favorites recently announced their upcoming album, Hey Brother, It’s Been A While, and they’ve now shared another new single, Survive, that follows on from lead single Let It Go. Survive offers another glimpse of the endearing amalgam of influences, whereas Let It Go was baggy-by-way-of-basement-punk, Survive speeds up the tempo for a cut of jangly college rock bliss.
Due out May 3rd from Convulse Records, Hey Brother, It’s Been A While is a record of invitingly idiosyncratic punk psychedelia, imbued with a real humanity and compassion that’s been hard earned through life and death stakes. Recorded by James Barone (Beach House / Tennis), Hey Brother, It’s Been Awhile effortlessly weaves the band’s many influences into one cohesive sound, conjuring up an endless array of rock music fantasy scenarios: What if The Stone Roses were fronted by Jim Carroll? What if Spiritualized and The Replacements wrote music together? What if The Meat Puppets were a C86 band?
