Manchester Punk Festival Issues 42nd Name Your Price Compilation
Manchester Punk Festival have released the 42nd volume of their name your price compilation series via Bandcamp ahead of next year’s festival. Manchester Punk…
There’s no polish, no pretence and certainly no unnecessary fuss when it comes to Pernicious Nefarious. The Geelong outfit step things up with new single, Need for Greed, that delivers a raw, no-frills blast of punk fuelled by sharp wit and a particularly blasé brand of angst. At the heart of the band are identical twin brothers Sven and Lars, both just 13 years old, whose musical instincts and songwriting chops are well beyond their years. Sven first picked up the guitar at around nine, with Lars following shortly after on bass. What began as jams with mates soon developed into a catalogue of original songs, initially road-tested at birthday parties and the local footy club. The two have been joined by drummer James Noga and have since then taken their irreverent live show to local stages, sharing bills with international, Melbourne and Geelong acts while working towards their debut album, Squeeze the Thunder, which is due out in December.
Squeeze the Thunder was recorded at Steve Albini’s legendary Electrical Audio in Chicago, where the band seized an unexpected window of opportunity during a trip to the US. Further guitar recordings and overdubs took place at Geelong’s Pivot City, before the tracks were mixed by Glen Franklin Music and mastered by Crystal Mastering. As for the single’s title, Lars offers a characteristicaly straightforward explanation. Asked what inspired Need for Greed, his response was: “Nothing really. Just Need like really rhymes with Greed”.
