C.O.F.F.I.N Release “Out In Oslo” Album & Stream “10,000 Miles From Oslo” Documentary

Australia’s C.O.F.F.I.N have released their sixth studio full length, Out In Oslo, via (pdoom) Records. In conjunction with the album’s digital release the band are also streaming their feature-length documentary 10,000 Miles From Oslo, through YouTube. The most recent taste of the album, Gettin’ Down, serves as the album’s focus track, the accompanying music video, the fourth to be directed by vocalist Ben Portnoy, captures the average night out with C.O.F.F.I.N and co.

“I’ve found that music videos whose subject matter is mismatched or contrasted with the mood of the song often sticks with me as my mind attempts to marry the two. It was my hope here to promote a pondering that by having a fun party night out as the visuals for a song essentially about being disengaged and distressed with the state of the world.” (Ben Portnoy)

Produced by Declan Mehrtens (Amyl and The Sniffers), with vocals co-produced by Jason Whalley (Frenzal Rhomb), Out In Oslo captures C.O.F.F.I.N at their most expansive and refined. While retaining the grit and energy that the band are known for, the album broadens their sonic palette with greater dynamics, richer textures and some of their most adventurous songwriting to date. The music nods to the rich and raw lineage of bands such as Coloured Balls, The Angels and AC/DC, while filtering it through their own Northern Beaches lens, exploring ideas around Australian identity, community, environmentalism, injustice and the country’s connection with the rest of the world.
