Getting Dumber Drop New Single & Video “A Love So Little”
Perth clock-rockers Getting Dumber are back with a fresh wad of chewed up 'n' spat out bubblegum punk! Recorded, mixed and mastered…
Emerging from the flourishing London DIY Psych and noise rock scene in 2022, Chum’s enigmatic band members are currently credited as Marvin Gardens, Randy Burns, Johnny Utah, Sweet Pudding and Tomas. Featuring their sold out single Beefcake Doctrine, Metaphysical is Chum’s debut album that will be released on Evil Blizzard’s record label Crackedankles. Recorded, mixed and mastered at Bear Bites Horse Studio by Wayne Adams, Metaphysical takes the listener on a sonic journey through the somewhat warped eyes and minds of Chum. Part crystal healing ceremony, part self-help seminar, part just-taken-the-brown-acid; you’re never quite sure of where they might end up.

With equal doses of and nods towards noise-rock, psych, garage/punk rock, kraut-rock, classic rock and pop it’s hard to nail Chum into one pigeon hole and perhaps they shouldn’t be. Influences including Devo, Faith No More, Part Chimp, Killing Joke, The Birthday Party and Deep Purple, 70’s and 80’s Horror Movies, Postmodern Fiction, TV Magicians and New-Age Therapies offer some clues, however Chum’s sound remains unique and their horizons broad.
Sections of melodic chorus-drenched pop segue into brash discordant chaos. Anthemic arpeggiated synth passes lead into pitch-shifted distorto bass guitar solos. Vocal delivery that feels dangerously close to the ledge of sanity looks down over blazing Hammond organ riffs. In essence, it’s heavy, it’s loud and it’s pretty weird, yet somehow it manages to remain accessible throughout.

Metaphysical will be released on April Fools Day on 12” Vinyl with free tarot card and affirmations sheet!, limited edition cassette tape and to stream and download via Bandcamp. A video for Social Animal will also be released at this time. Chum will be heading out for a number of live dates throughout Spring/Summer 2023, with the dates surrounding the album release scheduled for April.
