Johny Skullknuckles (The Kopek Millionaires / The Dead Beats / Goldblade) continues his musical adventures with The SoDa Poppers and their brand new…
Boston’s celtic street punks The Dropkick Murphys have released a new video for the track “Tomorrow’s Industry.” As the press release makes clear though, the video has far greater aspirations than simply providing a visual component. In fact, the video marks a collaboration between the band and Boston hospital workers as part of their campaign to join Local 1199 of the Service Employees International Union. Local hospital worker Bill Timmons, one of many making an appearance in the video, comments:
“This was a fun way to get the message out about a serious issue… It shows Dropkick Murphys are a band that’s true to their roots. It shows they’re willing to stand up for the working families of their city. And many of those families have at least one person doing a job in healthcare where they’re underpaid and barely able to scrape by.”
The video and DVD will launch publicly on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, which will also see the Dropkick Murphys becoming the first ever national recording artists in the United States to create a rock music video with a theme working towards and with an organized labour agenda.
On September 21, ten-thousand copies of the video will be distributed as a free DVD in the Fenway, Kenmore, and Longwood Medical Area neighborhoods of Boston between 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM. Thereafter the band will play a release party at McGreevey’s Irish Pub and Sports Bar, 911 Boylston Street, Boston, MA between 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM. The first 200 people at the release party will also receive a limited edition t-shirt to commemorate the event.
The video will also be posted online that evening to www.DropkickMurphys.com andwww.Join1199SEIU.org.
