The SoDa Poppers Drop New Single “Not Even In Your Wildest (Fuckin’) Dreams”

Dothan, Alabama’s Ghosts Among the Pines are set to unleash their anticipated new single, Holding On, that will be available via streaming platforms on March 24th with a video to follow in April. Holding On will be the first of two singles to drop in the lead up to the release of their debut full length, Sorry For The Mess, that will be released on June 6th. Holding On is the autobiographical narrative describing the spiral into addiction, and the inevitable hitting rock bottom that forces you to confront the realization that you either continue the self-destructive path of addiction, or take steps to turn things in a different direction. The song was recorded during the same marathon session as the album. With no budget and a DIY spirit, the song punches well above its humble production. The sound is described as similar to that of the 90s skate and pop punk that lead singer, Mike (Sully) Sullivan, grew up on. It’s up beat, catchy as hell, and climaxes with the raw, frenetic energy of a gospel choir at a tent revival in the deep south on a Sunday afternoon in August.

“This is about a very specific time in my life in my early 20s when I began to lean into the reputation of being a drunk asshole and made that a part of my punk singer persona. It wasn’t until I met my future wife that I got a handle on the poor decisions I was making. This song is vaguely about the night known canonically as “The Night We Don’t Talk About” because no one needs the gory details, and I don’t actually remember them all. I hope when people listen to it they go deeper than the earworm hooks, and feel the weight of the subject matter, and for people that might also be heading down that path, they can see themselves in it and realize they’re not alone.” (Mike (Sully) Sullivan)
