UK hardcore punks Grail Guard have released their latest single, Our Streets, that delivers a fierce and unflinching statement on racism, belonging and collective resistance. Following the confrontational charge of People Just Like You and the anarchist anthem Anxieties, Our Streets continues the band’s uncompromising political stance, this time confronting the lie that generations of immigrant families somehow “don’t belong”. The song speaks for those who were invited to rebuild Britain after the war, who worked in factories and fields, paid taxes, raised families and buried loved ones here, yet are still told to “go back” because of the colour of their skin. Musically, Our Streets is driven by a relentless bass line, razor-sharp, Dead Kennedys-style guitars and an urgent, shout-along intensity. It’s a direct call-out to racism, fear and the toxic nationalism that continues to dominate headlines and spill into communities across the UK.
Our Streets is out now via TNSrecords and is taken from Grail Guard‘s upcoming debut album Still No Future, a record that cements the band as one of the UK’s most vital and outspoken modern hardcore acts. Recorded with Jon Priestley (The Damned / The Godfathers) at Abatis Studios, the track captures both anger and defiance, but also solidarity and hope. As with much of Still No Future, frontman Riaz’s exploration of British-Indian heritage sits at the heart of the message, asserting identity, history and the right to exist without apology.
