“Shit Show Pony” promises catchy and fast riffs that are contrasted with the harsh rasps of vocalist/ guitarist Ed Cornish‘s aggressive grievances, whilst bassist / vocalist Scott Bradley name-checks Rancid and Pennywise as further influences
We use some gang vocals on some songs, where there’s a lot of voices going on to really give them some energy and it’s something we do live. Previously, the grunge and punk was kept separate in different songs but we’ve now got it finely woven together
However, it wasn’t always a straightforward process as there are three drummers on “Shit Show Pony“. Two songs, “Newspeak” and “Sadgasm“, were recorded first, then they had a hired gun for several more, before settling on Ash Partridge as their permanent replacement in September 2018.
The guys were after someone with experience, who knew the punk scene, and I was recommended to them by Incisions. I spent about a month learning 10 songs for some gigs and then they dropped the bombshell of completing the album. I came in with some ideas of my own and they just let me go for it. We managed to smash the remaining songs in a couple of sessions at Kesbri Studios and they’ve even included one I wrote on the record.
Ed Cornish has the last word on how “Shit Show Pony” compares to the band’s previous EPs
I think it shows how our song writing has changed over the past two years. I wanted the songs to have a raw feel to them and I think we’ve finally found a style we’re happy with
