Warrington, UK punk band Hummer have announced that they are going their separate ways and have released the following statement “The three of us went for a curry the other night (as usual, it was a shashlik, a vindaloo and some vegetarian option), and at some point between eating and getting the bill we ended up on a discussion that ultimately all bands must end up having at some point – in short, we have decided between us that Hummer is going to cease to exist. Even though we’ve only really been hammering things for the last 6/7 years, we have been playing together in some form or another since our teenage years, and in that time we’ve been all over the place, sharing many laughs, broken strings, snapped sticks, abandoned 3-pint rules, epic wrong turns, near-death experiences and bad Thin Lizzy air-guitaring, and you know what, it’s all been bloody ace!”
“However as we get older and our lives become more diverse and/or settled, some of us are finding it harder and less enjoyable to commit to it, and with our long history together (as mates first and foremost, and a pissed-off punk band a distinct second) it just wouldn’t feel right keeping it going with the same name, same songs and different members, so this decision was actually a very easy (and completely amicable) one for us to make! On the live front, the smattering of gigs (and a short tour) we had lined-up through this year are now all cancelled, with the exception of the Wazza Punx All Dayer on Saturday April 2nd, which we’re going to use as a hometown farewell gig, so be sure to come on down! On the recording front, we might well still record some of the new stuff we’ve been amassing recently, either for a posthumous release or purely for shits and giggles – we’re making no promises or putting a time on it, but stay tuned if you like…”
