Imagine a punked up pumped up performance poet created as the love child of Barbara Windsor and John Cooper Clarke, spitting from the lip. Straddling the Shakespeare themes of comedy and tragedy, teasing with laughter, then taunting those undesirables in society. One half of the unique Cherry & Peesh, who have embellished the punk ‘n folk scene with melodical tales and catchy tunes for the past four years. Travelling all over the country, performing at prestige gigs and festivals. Author, writer, poet, psychotherapist, professional swearer, dyspraxic and opinionated, words that define and illuminate qualities that feature within the personality of Cherry B.

Cherry B will regularly be posting exclusive poems on The Punk Site and here’s her debut for the site, Tattoo Twin, that was prompted by the meeting of Cherry B and Phinky at the H.I.T.S. 25 festival at Blackpool Winter Gardens earlier this year.

I caught a glimpse of exposed flesh, it appeared clammy under the lights.

I recognised the colours, shades, pattern, a very familiar sight.

I was looking at my reflection painted on another skin,

and realised, I wasn’t alone, I had a tattoo twin.

I thought I was original, the only one with that,

But it appears there’s 100s that share the same style tat.

So let’s play tattoo bingo and strip off to the bone,

we can compare artistry and never feel alone.

So who’s got barbed wired, wrapped around their limb?

Or initials of a past love tattooed on a whim.

Hands up all the tramp stamps, you know where they sit,

always exposed from trousers, that just don’t fit.

Who’s got their favourite band and lyrics across their chest?

words with a personal meaning, forever being expressed.

Here come the ladies, petite butterflies on their wrist,

Who’s got something offensive, from when they were pissed.

There’s Celtic bands, swallows on your hands and an elbow webbed spider.

There’s flowers and hearts, vicars and tarts and a full back that’s getting wider.

Covered sleeves that merge as one that tell a juicy history,

and those from 40 years ago and are a bloody mystery.

So whatever tattoo you choose to have, wether you dare to bare or hide

It’s what makes us unique, creative and feel identified.

Cherry B‘s collection of poetry and lyrics, Job Lot Of Rhymes, is now available via Flapjack Press. Job Lot Of Rhymes spans three decades of Cherry B’s performance work. Political, societal and inclusive, it is uncompromising and passionate punk ’n roll poetics firing from the belly of social conscience. Cherry B will be appearing at Clash Against The Right in Acton, London on the 16th October

Cherry B also appears on her monthly radio show, Poetry Is The New Rock ’N Roll, that offers an hour of lyric led, spoken versed, genre smashing, musical adventure into the exploration of hidden poetry, that is often camouflaged behind powerful rhythms and riffs. Named after one of their own songs, Cherry & Peesh will travel through the decades and diverse styles to discuss and dissect the meaning of rhyme as reflected by songwriters. The next edition is on the 22nd October at 9PM GMT on Totally Wired Radio
