Kill, The Icon are a protest punk duo based in London. Furious at the actions of the government, and despondent about the inertia in British society. Kill, The Icon make fast-paced music that promises to make a dent in the kleptocracy. Founded by a bandleader who has been at the forefront of recent protest movements, Kill, The Icon aims to function as a post-pandemic soundtrack to modern British activism. The music is intentionally stripped back with distorted bass guitar, drums and occasional synth parts mean that the lyrics of Kill, The Icon are given prominence.

Their debut single, Buddhist Monk, tells the tale of Thich Quang Duc, the man who burned himself alive in protest against an oppressive Vietnamese regime. Following on from a successful debut show at The Victoria, Dalston, Kill, The Icon are planning for a run of winter gigs to support the single’s release. Buddhist Monk will be released in November 2021.
The music aims to explore the history of protest, activism and anti-fascism through the lens of pop culture. References to Quentin Tarantino and David Fincher films serve to create a kaleidoscopic universe within which the song’s characters come to life, and ask provoking questions of the listener. The second single from Kill, The Icon is slated to be Bourdain, a polemic on why we can’t afford to buy houses anymore.
