Germany’s Melonball have released their new single, The Static, that offers a more introspective but no less powerful moment from their forthcoming second full length, Take Care, that is due out on February 27th via Canada’s Thousand Islands Records and Germany’s Rookie Records. With The Static, Melonball explore the uneasy space between closeness and stagnation, the feeling of being both held and stuck in a relationship at the same time. “Lost in the static” isn’t framed as drama or collapse, but as a persistent state of mind: a low-level hum of repetition, comfort, and doubt, where the question isn’t how to escape, but whether you even want to.

Musically, the band remain rooted in their fast, technical punk foundation while noticeably opening up their sound. The melody carries more than it pushes, and the chorus lodges itself in your head without relying on excess or gimmicks. The Static feels deliberately unresolved, catchy, but tinged with unease, marking a subtle expansion of the band’s emotional range while still feeling fully connected to the urgency and intensity that define Take Care. The accompanying music video, directed by Manuel Wislhuber, mirrors this suspended emotional state. Rather than leaning on narrative, the video focuses on atmosphere and suggestion, translating the song’s quiet tension into a series of flickering, unresolved images.
