New Junk City Share “Shell Game” From Upcoming “Where Could I Go?” Album

Atlanta punk band New Junk City have today shared their new single, Shell Game, that takes a a sharp look at the compromises work can demand from the people and relationships around it, the song is the second taste of the band’s forthcoming fourth full-length album, Where Could I Go?, that is due out on November 6th via Lauren Records. Shell Game turns its attention to the time, energy, and pieces of ourselves traded away in exchange for stability, the song questions when providing for a life together begins to consume the life itself.

Shell Game captures the hard bargain of continually betting that the sacrifice will eventually prove worthwhile. That tension sits at the heart of Where Could I Go?, an album concerned with how to build a life with other people when love, work, grief, and responsibility rarely fit together neatly. Across its dozen tracks, New Junk City examines what it means to build a life rooted in love, particularly when love alone cannot provide an easy answer. Written over the course of approximately two years, the album explores how love can exist without a clear object, how to make room for someone else’s grief, the compromises and sacrifices demanded by work, and how to accept personal shortcomings and failures without allowing them to harden into resentment. The album was recorded at Standard Electric with longtime New Junk City collaborator Damon Moon and produced by Tyler Bisson. Where Could I Go? finds the band turning inward without losing the urgency and directness that have defined their music throughout the past decade.
