Problem Patterns Reveal “Boring Songs For Boring People” EP

Belfast’s Problem Patterns have today released their new EP via Alcopop! Records, from its sharp-tongued title to its raw, honest songwriting, Boring Songs for Boring People is a chaotic, cathartic exploration of burnout, boredom, and breaking through the noise of modern life. Following the success of their acclaimed debut album, Blouse Club, the self-described “four shouty queers” are back, pushing their feminist punk even further into emotional honesty, humour, and experimental weirdness. Problem Patterns are no strangers to self-deprecation, but the title also reflects their frustrations with a music industry that too often rewards mediocrity while sidelining bands like theirs, DIY artists balancing full-time jobs with relentless touring and creative output. The EP also features a guest appearance from Matt Korvette of Sub Pop noise-punks Pissed Jeans.

“It means a lot of things, I wrote a song called ‘Boring Songs for Boring People’ as a response to people who just love the sound of their own voices, but as an EP title, I think it pokes fun at ourselves, too. This is a difficult stage of being in a band. Our debut album went better than we ever hoped, so now the pressure is on to put out something equally good. So we’re poking fun at ourselves, I guess?
