Our punked up pumped up performance poet, who has been described as the The Punk Pam Ayers and The Cockney Cooper Clarke, has returned with her latest exclusive poem for The Punk Site, 2022 1977, that asks if punk’s future is being put on hold by punk’s past. Cherry B straddles the Shakespeare themes of comedy and tragedy, teasing with laughter, then taunting those undesirables in society. One half of the unique Cherry & Peesh, who have embellished the punk ‘n folk scene with melodical tales and catchy tunes for the past five years, the duo also released an album this year, Dont Make It Easy On Yourself. Author, writer, poet, psychotherapist, professional swearer, dyspraxic and opinionated, words that define and illuminate qualities that feature within the personality of Cherry B.

2022 is it the new 77?
Is it the year of the new punk heaven?
Are we living the days of exciting new bands?
Or historical re-enactments on the Blackpool sands?
Is our experience exploited or are we embracing our youth?
Are we open to suggestions or just long in the tooth?
Do we listen to the young ones and take heed of change and time?
Or are we happy with the sing a long anthems etched on our mind?
Does our rebellion stretch to meet us or have we sadly said goodbye?
When matinee gigs attract us and weekenders oversupply.
We may mourn our heroes, but do we welcome new upstarts?
For it’s resembles what we yearn for, adolescence in our hearts.
We are spoilt for choice with reminiscence, there’s enough room for the new
We are privileged with history yet our instinct blinds the view.
Each year that passes, we elaborate and our music expands
So let’s put that to test and watch some brand new bands.

“I hear lots of rumbles about people wanting to see old bands and wondering why younger fans are no where to be seen. It’s because we often ignore new bands, who bring the next generation. This year has once again been busy, doing lots of solo gigs in the North West. Cherry & Peesh brought out a new album and have had some smashing gigs. Next year, looks exciting, we are already confirmed at Rebellion, Northern Kin and more to be announced. For my solo stuff, there are some very very exciting things in the pipeline.” (Cherry B)

Cherry B‘s collection of poetry and lyrics, Job Lot Of Rhymes, is now available via Flapjack Press. Job Lot Of Rhymes spans three decades of Cherry B’s performance work. Political, societal and inclusive, it is uncompromising and passionate punk ’n roll poetics firing from the belly of social conscience. Cherry B also appears on her monthly radio show on Totally Wired Radio, Poetry Is The New Rock ’N Roll, that offers an hour of lyric led, spoken versed, genre smashing, musical adventure into the exploration of hidden poetry, that is often camouflaged behind powerful rhythms and riffs. Named after one of their own songs, Cherry & Peesh will travel through the decades and diverse styles to discuss and dissect the meaning of rhyme as reflected by songwriters.
