Cherry B is our punked up pumped up performance poet, who has been described as the The Punk Pam Ayers and The Cockney Cooper Clarke, she has returned with her latest exclusive poem for The Punk Site, Dear Depression, that reveals a more personal and intimate side of her work.

Dear Depression
You come round here knocking on my door,
selling your wares.
I choose not to purchase,
you leave a freebie on my stairs.
You are inconvenient,
you disturb my sleep.
Late night ruminating,
making me weep.
You are the tear stains,
that tattoo my face.
The cavernous shell,
that has taken my place.
The coffee stained jumper,
that I wear everyday.
has better life affirmations,
and more to say.
You are the reflection
in the tv screen.
Hollow eyes look back,
not much in-between.
You are the thief,
stolen my creativity.
My confidence
and my ability.
You lock me in this house,
like a prisoner on trial.
Isolation,
has never been my style.
Yet, here I am,
afraid and full of fear.
Doubting my existence,
not wanting to be here.
You are,
the grease in my hair.
The lack,
of self care.
My make up lays
untouched on the shelf.
You’ve taken the worth
I had for myself.
Why you came calling?
I’ll never know.
I don’t mean to be rude
But I wish that you’d go.
Am I invisible? yet in full sight?
Am I a poet? if I cannot write?

Author, writer, poet, psychotherapist, professional swearer, dyspraxic and opinionated, words that define and illuminate qualities that feature within the personality of Cherry B. Straddling the Shakespearean themes of comedy and tragedy, teasing with laughter, then taunting those undesirables in society. One half of the unique Cherry & Peesh, who have embellished the punk ‘n folk scene with melodical tales and catchy tunes for the past five years. The duo also released an album last year, Dont Make It Easy On Yourself, and will be appearing this years Rebellion Festival.

“This is much more personal and intimate poem, that has finally allowed me to write again after a few months lost in the creative wilderness. Mental health is experienced by most of us, it is never shameful and I encourage everyone to be open with their experiences. Writing poetry has enabled me to survive many difficult experiences and I’m a huge advocate of using creativity as an expression of awareness and insight. It’s a quiet start to the year gig wise, a few solo ones in London and some festivals confirmed with Peesh. Talking of Peesh, we are starting on some new material and even have a new Dub EP planned for this year, collaborating with Kingsley Salmon and produced and mixed by What’s Left.”

Cherry B‘s collection of poetry and lyrics, Job Lot Of Rhymes, is now available via Flapjack Press. Job Lot Of Rhymes spans three decades of Cherry B’s performance work. Political, societal and inclusive, it is uncompromising and passionate punk ’n roll poetics firing from the belly of social conscience. Cherry B also appears on her monthly radio show on Totally Wired Radio, Poetry Is The New Rock ’N Roll, that offers an hour of lyric led, spoken versed, genre smashing, musical adventure into the exploration of hidden poetry, that is often camouflaged behind powerful rhythms and riffs.
