Ahead of this year’s Rebellion Festival we’ll be asking a selection of the band’s who are appearing about what we can expect, and for their advice on surviving the four day festival. In the fourth of The Punk Site‘s Rebellion Festival previews we speak to Revenge Of The Psychotronic Man, they formed in 2004 and have been playing stupidly fast punk ever since. They have released four albums and numerous EP’s and members of the band are also involved with DIY punk projects such as TNS Records, Manchester Punk Festival and MBBP gigs, the band will be splitting up in December with their final gig taking place at Rebellion Bar in Manchester. The Rebellion Festival will be taking place at Blackpool Winter Gardens between the 2nd and 5th August 2018, you can purchase tickets and view the full line up here. The preview of Revenge Of The Psychotronic Man‘s final Rebellion Festival appearance can be read below.

Is this your first experience of the Rebellion Festival or have you played before?

It’s not, we’ve played quite a few times now and always had a lovely time. We’ve been to the festival plenty of times when not on the bill too.

What can we look forward to from your set?

It’s our last ever appearance at the festival, so we’ll be a bit emotional, but we will be giving it everything. It will be relentless. We can pack a lot of songs into 40 minutes.

What makes the Rebellion Festival special for you?

It’s such a friendly atmosphere, but it’s also has so much diversity, both in terms of the line up and in terms of the people who are there, which is something it sometimes doesn’t get proper credit for. You know you are going to bump into someone you know everywhere you go and there are so many bands playing that there is something for everyone.

Will you have the chance to catch anyone else whilst you’re there and is there anyone else on the bill you’d recommend people go and see?

We’ll be watching as much as we possibly can whilst there. I’d love to tell people to check out The Lawrence Arms and The Restarts as they are two of my favourite bands in the world, but I’m absolutely gutted to say that we clash with both, so people should probably miss them as you will never be able to see us at Rebellion again ;). Plus you can still watch most of our set and most of The Restarts with some tactical moving about as we don’t overlap completely. There are so many great bands that I’ll miss someone I love if I make a list, but off the top of my head, Pizzatramp, Brassick, Aerial Salad, Wonk Unit, Faintest Idea, Atterkop, Bandits, The Fucking Glorious, Millie Manders And The Shut Up, Clowns and The Stupids (amongst many others) are all great, all friends of ours and all part of the incredible DIY punk scene that we are so happy to be a part of.

If you could pick one band to appear at the Rebellion Festival who would it be?

Very tough. Kid Dynamite, Zeke or Mr Blobby. I’m aware that’s three.

Do you have a favourite memory from a previous Rebellion Festival?

In terms of bands, I’ve always enjoyed the bands who you don’t expect to see there. Space were amazing. Chas N’ Dave and Frank Sidebottom also stand out. But my favourite ever memory from Rebellion is when our very good friends, Alison and Mark actually got married there. It was so nice. They had their first dance to ‘Booze Time’ during our set and the crowd did a circle pit around them. I’ll never forget that.

Are you currently on tour if so where else are you playing this year?

We aren’t on tour, but we are playing pretty much every weekend until we split up. We always said we’d go out hard once we decided the end was near. We are playing Boomtown the week after as well as a few awesome DIY festivals (a couple of which haven’t been announced yet). And we are trying to get to as many of our favourite places as possible before we call it a day, so we still have loads left to play. All gigs (that have been announced) are listed at www.revengeofthepsychotronicman.com

What can we look forward to from you in the next twelve months?

You can only look forward to us existing as a band until December haha. But yeah, we’ll be doing what we’ve always done until then; gigging loads and having fun wherever we go. We released a final record a couple of months ago, which is basically a compilation of tracks from between 2004 and now, including some new, previously unreleased stuff. So we’ll be trying to promote that too so we don’t end up with loads left when the party is over. After December we’ll generally be in pubs I think.

Do you have any festival survival tips?

If we’ve survived you’ll be fine. My Mum always tells me to drink water. I think she forgets that there is loads of water in lager.

Is there anything else in Blackpool you’d recommend people experience whilst they’re in the town?

Wow, it’s just a world of stupidity. Where do I start? Just take it all in. There is a t-shirt shop on the sea front where you can get a custom made t-shirt, with a funny picture (probably some weird illustration of an animal), with shiny writing (probably your name) above it. Get one of them and tell the guy in the shop we sent you.

Finally when and where are you appearing?

We play The Arena Stage at 6.30 on Thursday.

Thanks for taking the time to speak to us, we’ll see you down the front
