Isle of Wight indie punks Reminders are have announced that they have signed to Venn Records (UK) and Wiretap Records (USA) for their debut album, Best of Beach Punk, that is set for release on the 1st April, to celebrate the news, the band have released an official video for lead single Carousel. Reminders will head out on their first run of UK tour dates in February 2022 supporting fellow Isle of Wight punks Grade 2, that will be followed by a run of Spring headline dates.

“‘Carousel’ is a song about telling people how you feel and looking for a sense of relief. Nearly everyday we are asked a variation of ‘how are you?’, and we all say ‘good’, and that made me think; what sort of chaos would ensue if we were honest? At the time I was desperate to be honest with somebody about how I felt, but I didn’t feel comfortable telling anybody ‘I need to vent’. This song is all the things I would have said if I felt as though I could have. The genesis of the lyrics comes from a John Lennon song called ‘Watching the Wheels’, except that song is pretty optimistic. ‘Carousel’ is its angry step-child. Bottling all of my feelings only led to being pissed off with everybody anyway, and caused me to fall out with the people around me. That’s what the bridge is about: we’re all too insecure to talk about how we feel, while being simultaneously too arrogant to concede, and once a row has gone too far, nobody is willing to stand down or rationalise, when all I was really looking for was someone to talk to.” (front man Leo Dyke)

Reminders approach punk rock from where they know it best: a forgotten seaside town. Formed on the Isle of Wight in 2017, the band cut their teeth writing songs about teenage lust and suburban boredom, gaining attention after they independently released Water Sports and Major Cities. Fresh-faced and excited, the then-teenagers coined their sound ‘beach punk’; a tongue-in-cheek ode to their hometown that they stand by today. Firmly solidifying their identity as breakneck but bubblegum, a pop-tinged punk band, Reminders work to introduce themselves to anybody willing to listen. After an unexpected hiatus during COVID which delayed the release of their album, the band are now raring and ready to go with their new label homes at Venn Records and Wiretap Records and their forthcoming tour dates.
