Isle of Wight indie punks Reminders have revealed the video for their new single, If You Want It (Don’t Let Me Down), that is now available via digital platforms. The track is the latest to be taken from their forthcoming debut album, Best Of Beach Punk, that is set for release on 1st April via Venn Records in the UK and Wiretap Records in the US. Reminders are currently on their first run of UK tour dates supporting fellow Isle of Wight punks Grade 2, the dates will be followed by March and April headline dates.
“This song was written during the beginning of my first serious relationship. I was nineteen, and experiencing all the highs and lows of truly caring for somebody for the first time. It hit me really hard, and with all the happiness that loving someone brought me, darker overtones showed up, too. I couldn’t work out if the feelings I had were unrequited and it was the first time in my life I felt super insecure and paranoid. It felt like a side of falling in love that nobody wanted to talk about, and I was terrified that I was putting my all into somebody who could so easily ‘let me down’, but then I figured that’s the risk you have to be willing to take. It was essentially me saying: this song isn’t supposed to impress you, but if you are ready, so am I—just please don’t prove these toxic thoughts that I’m having to be right. For any Beatles fans out there, it was certainly inspired by both John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Obviously by ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ From ‘Let It Be’, but also a song that Paul McCartney wrote for a band called Badfinger titled ‘Come And Get It’.”
Reminders approach punk rock from where they know it best: a forgotten seaside town. Formed on the Isle of Wight in 2017, the band cut their teeth writing songs about teenage lust and suburban boredom, gaining attention after they independently released their debut single, Water Sports And Major Cities. Fresh-faced and excited, the then-teenagers coined their sound ‘beach punk’; a tongue-in-cheek ode to their hometown that they stand by today. Firmly solidifying their identity as breakneck but bubblegum, a pop-tinged punk band, Reminders work to introduce themselves to anybody willing to listen. After an unexpected hiatus during COVID which delayed the release of their album, the band are now raring and ready to go with their new label homes at Venn Records and Wiretap Records and their forthcoming tour dates.
