Brighton noise rock trio Staff Party have revealed their new single, Leech, the final track to be taken from their debut EP, Dread, which is out now on all good streaming platforms. The pointed and vitriolic EP’s closing track is a fitting punctuation mark for the band’s first release with its sense of visceral unease and tension. Although not specifically referenced in the song, the lyrics for the song were written around the time of the tragic murder of Sarah Everard at the hands of a Metropolitan Police Officer, and the unlawful actions of the police during the subsequent protests and vigils.
“This song was me venting frustration at awful people, like Everard’s killer, corrupt police, and anyone who abuses their standing or power for their own selfish means. It’s also aimed at toxic people who will attempt to manipulate or anger you to become the centre of attention, and leech off your happiness. I don’t have time for people like that in my life.” (frontman Ed Lamb)
