State Of Millenia “Feel Alive” Track By Track
“Sorry At The Start: The album opener, greeting back the audience after the Freakshow EP with the line ‘it’s been a while since you stayed’. This song progresses through emo verses and choruses with an angelic second verse and some heavy riffs gluing it all together. This song tells a story about how you feel sympathy for letting somebody go but they then go and throw everything back in your face.
Small Talk: Small talk is a track about being with somebody who just does not put any effort into a relationship whatsoever. In the honeymoon period of a relationship things are so perfect and sweet but after a short amount of time, the cracks begin to show.
Door 111: This song is a reply to someone on the other end of the phone who is bitter and thinks you are less than them. A representation of anger and frustration whilst wanting to know what causes someone to act how they do.
Bleache: ‘Bleached’ is solely about being betrayed by someone you loved and the misery, pain, self-loathing and confusion that leaches onto you through it. We felt that the song needed to be heavy to really make it stand out. We were fortunate enough to have our friend Nick Nowak (The Gospel Youth / Valliers) to feature on it to lay the icing on the cake.
If You Cared: If You Cared is a song about struggle in the early stages of a relationship, where one person becomes selfish and neglects the other. The emotion and passion for that person is still there but is never returned and reluctantly twisted into regret and sorrow.
If You Cared (Hidden Track): A song about a moment in time seeing the one you love with someone else, feeling the sudden sting of realising true heartbreak and pain.
Stuck 17: Stuck 17 is the most angsty song on the album. The song is about feeling 17 years old forever, overwhelmed with everything in the world and not wanting to grow up. All you want to do shut the world off and ignore the fact that things are changing and there is nothing you can do about it.
Feel Alive: This track is what glues both halves of the album together. Feel Alive is a jammy ‘breather’ that allows you to comedown from the prior track whilst also setting up the next. Perfect for jamming whilst driving home at night.
Hindsight: Nostalgia, longing for a the past and what it was. This track is a look into the past and wishing you could go back and re-live moments, possibly change a few on the way. And in hindsight you realise that it’s those memories good or bad are what shape you into the person you are today.
The Mess You Made: This song is about catching up with an old crush that you haven’t seen in years. The typical conversation of how life has been since the last time you saw each other, whilst fighting the urge to fall back into the crush to find out what could have been.
Mutiny: Mutiny is based on the feeling of having everyone else against you without a helping hand. Doing what you think is right for everybody when everybody is against you. Much like how a captain of his ship gets overthrown in deep waters, even the sea itself is against them.
Hangnail: This is a song about the person you love. How you never want them to leave you whether it be getting out of bed to go to work or the worst case scenario. This song is for the person you love. Lyrics in the 1st verse also refer back to ‘No Way’ from the Freakshow EP.
Onsra: The final track on the album starting with the lyric “There’s not much left to say” as a goodbye to the listener. This is the anthem of the feel alive album, the song is about trying to do anything to hold on to what you once had then realising it’s all too late and there is nothing you can do. Onsra finishes with a reprise to Hindsight and Feel Alive.”
