Stiff Little Fingers To Release Expanded & Remastered “Nobody’s Heroes”

Stiff Little Fingers have announced that their 1980 sophomore album, Nobody’s Heroes, is getting an expanded reissue that will be released on the 18th September on CD and vinyl. The expanded triple CD will feature a freshly remastered version of the original album with six bonus tracks, BBC Radio 1 sessions from the era, a previously unreleased live show from Rotterdam’s Pop Met that was broadcast on Dutch radio, this version will also feature a DVD featuring TV appearances from Top of the Pops, Something Else and Dutch TV. The double vinyl will feature the remastered album as well as a selection of the unreleased BBC Radio 1 sessions, with the double CD also containing the bonus tracks.

Upon its original release, Nobody’s Heroes was deemed an important transitional album for the band. Where their debut had been raw, Nobody’s Heroes saw them embrace greater production in their recordings with a more polished sound influenced by reggae and ska. Nobody’s Heroes remains a definitive political statement of the era, featuring anthems like Tin Soldiers and At the Edge that tackle themes of forced patriotism and individual defiance. You can pre-order the expanded and remastered Nobody’s Heroes on double vinyl and double and triple CD via Rhino Records, Stiff Little Fingers will also be playing headline shows in the UK and Ireland this month as well appearing at Rebellion Festival and headlining their annual Putting The Fast In Belfast show.

“My overriding memory of those sessions is we were suddenly under pressure, which had never been the case before. Not only had we signed to a major, but we had to follow up an album that was already being hailed in the press as a “classic”. Add to that, we went into the studio in November with only five songs! Amazingly, those five were almost exactly the first side of the album, recorded in 1979, the same year that “Inflammable Material” was released. We took Christmas off and came back in January with the final five. And I remember Doug Bennett, our producer, saying to me at the final playback. ‘When we started, I never imagined we’d end up with something like this!’ And he meant it in a good way!” (vocalist & guitarist Jake Burns)
