The Bollweevils formed in Chicago back in 1989 and have released music on a host of labels including Dr. Strange, Hopeless Records and Underdog Records. Fast forward to the present: they released the single Liniment and Tonic when they were asked to play Riot Fest, and now it’s time for the main course, the big kahuna, the whole hog… the Essential full-length that will be released via Red Scare Industries on the 5th May and is now available for pre-order. The Bollweevils will also join Rise Against as main support at the legendary Metro at their sold out residency on the 30th March with additional tour dates to be announced soon.

It’s been 14 years since their last album, so they’ve spent ages putting together their best new material. Essential was tracked in their hometown, but they sent it out to The Blasting Room to be mixed because they knew they had a hit on their hands. They’re naming the album after themselves because they’re all essential workers: educators, first responders and of course leading the way is Dr. Daryl Wilson, the most ostentatious Afro-Punk frontman in the Midwest. It’s one big unity song for the punk community and the workin’ stiffs that got us through the pandemic, and everyone is invited to this party.

“We are proud to announce the upcoming release of our new LP, Essential, on Red Scare. This has been a labor of love and we are extremely happy with the body of work. Years in the making and it’s all coming together and coming to you very soon. May 5th! Pre-order and be one of the first to experience The Bollweevils resurgence. Hope to see many of you at our upcoming show with Rise Against, and some more live stuff later this spring.” (Dr. Daryl Wilson)
