The Fall’s Mark E. Smith R.I.P.

The sad news that Mark E. Smith of The Fall has passed away aged 60 has reached The Punk Site, The Fall were borne of the mid seventies UK punk scene and they remained an unique and creative fixture of Manchester’s musical history for over forty years. The Fall released over thirty studio albums during their existence, and three times that number if you take into account the numerous compilations and live albums. The Fall‘s history has been a turbulent one with Mark E. Smith being the only ever present in the line up, it is often said that everyone in Manchester was a member of The Fall, but there was only ever one person that defined the band, The Fall were always different, always unpredictable, yet always The Fall, and I don’t think there will ever be anyone else quite like them.
