Manchester Punk Festival Releases 37th Compilation
Manchester Punk Festival have released the 37th volume of their compilation series ahead of this year’s festival. Manchester Punk Festival Vol. 37 is…
We all know what happened in 2020. The Holy Ghost went into limbo along with the rest of the world, and did not survive intact. In 2022, guitarist and vocalist Jens Åker found the situation of not playing music unendurable and went into the Stockholm’s The Dustward studio and began recording what became their latest album, Ignore Alien Orders.
Ignore Alien Orders features seven songs of message driven indie punk delivered in a style that’s inspired by the American underground scene of the 80’s & 90’s. The album’s lyrical themes cover personal politics and spirituality accompanied by loud, powerful yet melodic guitar music for fans of Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, Rites Of Spring and Dinosaur Jr. Ignore Alien Orders is now available on all streaming platforms and on purple vinyl via Lövely Records.
“Over the past few years, the previous line-up of The Holy Ghost gradually ceased to exist, leaving me without a band. But that’s no way to live, so finally, in 2022, after a lot of hesitation and procrastination, I took it upon myself to start recording on my own together with Stefan Brändström in his studio The Dustward in The Old Town part of Stockholm. I chose seven songs that had been finished a long time ago and recorded them playing acoustic guitar. A few months later I went in and added drums to the guitar tracks. I hadn’t played drums properly since 1999. It took a while to get up to speed. Some time later I went in and laid down the electric guitars, whereupon my constant companion Thomas Hedblom came down and recorded bass tracks one day. Another good while later, I had prepared myself long enough to be able to sing these songs, at home in my apartment, much to the chagrin of my neighbors. I went down to The Old Town again for two evenings of singing. This was followed by some overdubbing, among other things I asked Nicklas Barker of Kosmogon to play the mellotron on two songs, which he recorded in his own home studio and then sent us the files. Stefan started mixing and mastering, and in February 2023 the mini-album Ignore Alien Orders was finished. Several times during this process, I was convinced that the end result would be crap and it would all turn out to be a very expensive mistake. But we did it, it even came out pretty good. I’m damn proud.” (Jens Åker)
