The Surf Serpents Return With “18 Wheeler” EP
Vancouver BC's The Surf Serpents have returned from a two year hiatus with a brand new high octane EP, 18…
The Medicine Dolls are the ultimate in sonic chaos, wrapped tightly in streaked eyeliner and delicious danger. They take their primary influence from the sound of the gritty underground 70’s, with lashings of 80’s indie music, post-punk, and a crucial injection of filthy surf rock to emerge as a chemical and exuberant fusion of The Cramps, The Doors and The 5.6.7.8’s, with more than a healthy nod to The Birthday Party in all their infamous glory. The band have now released their version of the Talking Heads 1977 classic, Psycho Killer. The track is the latest single taken from The Medicine Dolls acclaimed 2020 debut album, Filth & Wisdom, which earned the band a nomination for Best Alternative Album at this year’s SAMA’s (South African Music Awards).
“We’d been fiddling about with the idea of covering this tune for a while, at the same time, we kinda thought of it as one of the “Un-coverable” masterpieces. I suppose during all that “Covidy Apocalyptic Energy” we changed our minds, did a home recording of it and threw it on the record. Glad we did that. Really proud of the rendition we’ve put out.” (Vocalist & Guitarist Greg Alan)
