Vancouver Celtic punk lifers The Real McKenzies have released their new full length, On Yer Bike, via Stomp Records. The album is their first full-length since the closing of Fat Wreck Chords, as such the record marks both a new chapter and a defiant continuation for one of punk’s most enduring and hard-touring bands, proof that even as one era winds down, The Real McKenzies are still charging forward, boots laced and bagpipes blazing. For fans of The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, and NOFX, this is pure, unfiltered McKenzies.
Founded in 1992 by the larger-than-life Scottish punk poet laureate Paul McKenzie, The Real McKenzies have spent over three decades dragging their tartan-clad chaos across continents, from sticky pub floors to festival stages, building a legacy somewhere between a Highland march and a barroom brawl. Long before Celtic punk became a festival staple, they were out there doing it the hard way, fusing traditional Scottish melodies with the speed, grit, and attitude of punk rock. Through lineup changes, label shifts, and enough miles to circle the globe several times over, McKenzie has remained the constant, steering the ship with equal parts mischief, grit, and a healthy disregard for authority.
On Yer Bike finds that spirit fully intact, but sharpened. Across thirteen tracks, the album rips through themes of love, literature, history, and pure absurdity, delivered with the kind of energy that only comes from a band that’s lived every mile of its story, and probably had a pint (or six) along the way. Soaring bagpipes cut like North Sea wind, drums hit like a back-alley scrap, and the choruses land loud and proud, built for shoutalongs whether you’re in a packed club or half-cut at last call. The Real McKenzies will be on tour in Europe this Summer, you can view the band’s tour dates and purchase tickets here.
