Rising horror punk outfit Toria & The Terror have officially unleashed their debut EP, The Operating Table, through streaming platforms via We Are Horror Records, with physical formats set to follow. Originally resurrected in Liverpool, UK and now haunting the streets of Tokyo, Japan, the band stitch together gothic rock, riot grrrl aggression, psychobilly swagger, and horror-soaked theatrics into a chaotic and confrontational first release. The release features two original tracks, Frankenstein Girl and The Morgue, alongside a warped and unhinged reinterpretation of Bauhaus‘ classic Stigmata Martyr. The EP also serves as the first glimpse into the band’s forthcoming full-length album, Wicked Hymns.
Opening track Frankenstein Girl is a fuzz-drenched gothic riot grrrl anthem exploring self-hatred through classic horror imagery, as Toria Terror imagines digging up dead celebrities and sewing their best traits onto herself in a desperate attempt at self-worth. Follow-up track The Morgue channels the sleazy spirit of The Cramps, dragging listeners through three grotesque scenes of hospital horror wrapped in psychobilly swagger and Halloween-party energy. Closing the EP is a volatile and blasphemous interpretation of Stigmata Martyr, which is louder, dirtier, and far more deranged than the original. Equal parts seductive and unsettling, the band push the track into genuinely dangerous territory.
