The Restoration Of Chaos & Order - Hopeless Records
There are some bands that have been around for years, have a steady fan base, and everybody seems to know them – whether they know it or not. They are the bands that aren’t on the radio or TV, they don’t have mass appealing singles or anything like that, but bands that everyone mentions, critics reference and bands talk about. So somehow, even if they’ve never heard a single song by the band, everyone still knows the band. Against All Authority is one of those bands – and their new CD, The Restoration Of Chaos & Order shows us exactly why that is.
There isn’t any major radio single and nothing that will throw them up into the airwaves, no, instead The Restoration Of Chaos & Order is a fourteen track punk rock album. An album that works in its entirety, that sounds perfect when played together in sequence, but also sounds great chopped up if you only want to hear one quick song. And no matter what that one song you pick is, you’re sure to get a fair representation of the band as every song fits into the same mold of old-school, ska-punk anthems – and even though they all fit in the same mold, not once does the album become repetitive and trite. Somehow,Against All Authority were able to take a well used genre within every song and still make every song stand out by itself without simply becoming lost in the crowd, which is a very rare feat these days.
Amongst the distorted guitars, the upstrokes, the steady drum beats, and ska sections, it is Danny Lore’s nasally vocals which really make the album what it is. It’s a worn out voice that could only be made from a decade of drinking and smoking, and it sounds perfect. You can’t help but feel the sincerity, the emotion, and the raw energy behind his vocals as he spits out the sing-along choruses and enthusiastically yells “I Just Want A Circle Pit! Circle Pit! Circle Pit! Circle Pit!“.
Somehow, everybody already knows who Against All Authority is, and this CD shows us why. Everyone needs to hear it, because it will easily become a staple for what the underground punk scene will become and what it should already be.
