I'll Figure This Out - Take This To Heart Records
Do we need another Emo band with a heavy guitar laden sound, that screams of introspective wanderings and all the baggage that comes along with this. Well here we have exactly this, but for a band of such a tender age, this is a very accomplished driven sound, that does have some very atmospherical moments.
Being Barely Civil seems to come to these guys naturally, hanging on the edge of what could very easily fall into an abyss of out pouring, is reigned in just enough to not become uncivil.
Dropping some tribal beats as starter in ‘…For Now’, kind of hints at the spiritual side of trying to understand the why’s in life. Which strangely enough leads perfectly to ‘Graves Avenue’, a cry to all the disenfranchised, “sometimes I feel left out” being almost a calling to all who feel that being isolated is as human as you can get, with all the chaotic riffs and heavy chanting chords that you would expect, not genre bending, but lifting the bar a little.
The album moves relentlessly along the emotional tracks of a rollercoaster, ‘North Newhall’ gives that exhausting hanging on feel, which is followed by a softer more subdued sound that is ‘Hollow Structures’ giving a place to shelter for a while, before put through the wringer again and again.
Whilst beautifully played and produced, ‘I’ll Figure This Out’ isn’t exactly breaking moulds or surpassing that which has gone before. At its very core though, is a place for reflection and trying to understand your’e very being.
