Black Spiders - Dark Riders Records
Out now, Black Spiders from the steel city Sheffield, have been hard at work during lockdown to produce this enormously diverse slice of rock, focusing on the band is the reason for the imaginatively titled ‘Black Spider’ album, this is their first new music in six years, so why the wait? Well its taken a rebirth of sorts and a pandemic for the band to realise things just don’t get interesting until you don a guitar and start splashing riffs and hooks all over the room.
What you get from this album is pretty straight forward Rock n Roll but with a Black Spiders twist, ‘Fly In the Soup’ hits your ears first, its Sabbath esk outer shell is centred with a lyric that says, we are not gonna be the band that goes away, you will listen! We will have you with every riff, the hooks are gonna be a nemesis that will never go down without a fight.
No this isn’t Punk, so should it be gracing our pages at all you ask, of course it should, rock after all did bring us Motorhead and AC/DC, so why not hope that one day we may get a fresh rock/punk hybrid, sadly this may not be that moment, but lets just flip the volume up and enjoy the satanic sounds of ‘Wizard Shall Not Kill Wizard’ or the good times that ‘Good Times’ offer, the latter being a pure rock night down at the local bar song, grit on the floor and long hair flashing around front of stage like blurred waves.
If your either a traditional Sabbath fan or someone who likes to be wowed by something that takes the world of rock by the scruff of the neck and shakes it until it cry’s out to be let loose, you will find something in here to bang your alcohol soaked head with enough force that it knows it’s still alive, ‘No Luck No Bones’ is very capable of this by the way, a highlight for sure.
This album might not float all your boats, but it will sink a few that’s for sure.
Simple Rock n Roll played not so simply, loud, hard and fast.
