Staring At The Sun - Fox Records
Liverpool’s Decay join a long list of emo rock bands with their release of this debut album, ‘Staring At The Sun’ on 10th July via Fox Records.
Releasing ‘Comfortable’ as the first taster of the album, vocalist Danny Reposar explains:
“Comfortable is a song about coming to terms with all of the things you hate about yourself and your current life situations. To portray this we wanted to remain hidden for the majority of the video as a way to express how we often hide away all of our worst problems and worries.”
The album seems to follow through with Reposar’s thought process in its use of strong and emotional vocals, supported by the likes of heavy guitar riffs and the standard fast drum patterns. Throughout listening, you do find a lack of diversification through each song but this is not totally to its detriment.
From song to song, you feel as though its building to something different, but what is really happening, is your led along grasping at something that doesn’t quite give, then you get to the last track ’23’ which finally has you enjoying a calmer more studious approach to the music and lyric.
‘Ache’ was a stand out, it hangs on some much more screamo like vocals that does edge towards A Day To Remember sound, with the heavy guitar riffs and powerful lyrics.
The lyrics in each song show the band’s struggles and how they have channeled this into making a great album.
Giving the album a 3 is in no way a downer for the band or the album, but personal taste alone, if you like your bands to have energy and a possibly big live presence, then this might warrant a higher score.DECAY are:
