Immortals - STP Records

Dirt Box Disco are set to release their sixth album, Immortals, via STP Records on the 27th April, the CD of Immortals will be released on Sunday April 29th at the launch show in Manchester at Rebellion Bar and the vinyl will be released on Saturday July 28th at the launch show in Sheffield at Corporation, both of these options are now available to pre-order right now at STP Records. The release of the CD will kick start what looks like another hectic year for the quintet as their tour schedule sees them crisscrossing the UK for the rest of 2018, including stops at North West Calling, Rebellion Festival, Great British Alternative Weekend and even forays into mainland Europe.

The opening chords and singalong chorus of Ready Or Not lets you know that Dirt Box Disco are back, not that they’ve ever gone anywhere, between the members side projects and their touring schedule they’re practically omnipresent on the UK punk scene. Immortals is everything you’d expect from Dirt Box Disco, and this is best characterised by two songs as they flit between the tender pop punk of the superb You’re The Only One For Me and the self explanatory Caveman.com, these two tracks alone mean that Dirt Box Disco manage to contradict themselves in the space of six minutes, and it’s this that makes Dirt Box Disco such a unique band and goes some way to explaining their growing appeal.

There is something on a Dirt Box Disco album for anyone of a punk persuasion, catchy pop punk, expletive filled hardcore, old school punk rock and pretty much everything else in between is thrown into the mix, and when you combine this with a knack for a writing a catchy hook and some off colour humour they’re a band that are hard to resist. Dirt Box Disco have found a winning formula and the motto of it isn’t broken then why fix it would seem to fit them, but there’s more than enough variety on Immortals to stop Dirt Box Disco ever being considered any kind of one trick pony. The combination of bitter sweet pop punk, full blooded punk rock, short blasts of hardcore and their flair for the ridiculous means that Dirt Box Disco have produced yet another album that bridges the punk generations.
