Manchester Punk Festival Releases 37th Compilation
Manchester Punk Festival have released the 37th volume of their compilation series ahead of this year’s festival. Manchester Punk Festival Vol. 37 is…
TV Sex Show - Avenue Recordz
Guitar + Main Vocal Spunk Volcano, Drums + Vocal Maff Fazzo, Lead Guitar + Vocal Danny Fingers, Bass + Vocal Deadbeatz Chris that’s the Dirt Box line up as of this their 8th album if you include a compilation too.
Since the departure of Weab, SV has stepped up to the mark and taken on the main vocal since early 2019. Some might be left thinking well is this just gonna be an SV & the Eruptions album in a different guise, well actually no, although there are a couple of tracks that could leave you feeling the cross over, “Tizwatitiz” & “VDTV” being the culprits here, truthfully it would be hard not to get this musical/lyrical crossover, seeing that both bands hold similar sensibilities and members.
“Unstoppable” starts this 12 track (if you buy the CD you do get 14) full on Dirt box extravaganza, this song should hit all the right buttons with fans of old, with its call to arms lyric, and it’s come and join the Dirt Box gang chorus, kind of what you might come to expect from DBD.
Not really anything new going on with the structure of songs in here, 12/14 tracks of DBD energy filled melodic catchy riffs, heady bass lines, heavy duty drum beats and sing a long choruses, but then why try and change a format that has worked for the last 7 albums.
What you do get though are brand new song titles that lead you in and have you wondering what might be on the inside, 2 of the catchiest of these have to be “3 Bottles Down” and “Bitch Full Of Stitches” both of which also have so much underlying sadness, a quality that on the surface might not always be immediately apparent when being introduced to DBD for the first time, some of the best they have written and recorded over their whole 8 album history, this is so much down to the conviction and honesty that they have been written with.
Stand out’s that also give this album depth of listening quality beyond the anthem have to be “I Want Out”, “Reminisce” and “Ain’t Life Grand” filled with just about every influence you might want to shake a stick at.
What this album does, is to now strengthen DBD’s forward motion, since Weab left, few might have wondered whether or not they would carry on and if they did, would there be something missing, no is the answer.
Have to be honest and say that it did come as a surprise, but this is DBD’s best yet.
