Stardumb Records and Bearded Punk Records have combined their resources to release the debut album by the Dutch punk rock quartet, Lone Wolf. The Rotterdam based outfit, that consists of former members of Accelerators, The Apers, The Windowsill and The Bat Bites (as well as an occasional member of Masked Intruder), deliver a blend of melodic punk rock, garage and indie rock that will be unleashed when their debut album is released next week on digital, CD and vinyl formats.
From the first reverb drenched chords of Get Along you know that Lone Wolf are exactly that as their sound is amalgamation of styles that means they don’t run with either the garage rock or the indie rock packs that their sound originates from. Lone Wolf‘s debut album delivers twelve tracks that embrace the modern garage scene, not as raw as The Two Tens or The Ghost Wolves and not as frantic as Mind Spiders, this is a million miles away from the roots of the original garage and garage revival bands, but it is essential that scenes mutate to survive and Lone Wolf stand out as Dutch ambassadors for the current wave of garage influenced punk and indie bands that are emerging across mainland Europe and the USA.
If you discount Lone Wolf‘s chosen moniker, which to me conjures up images of an 80’s metal band (and a quick internet search found a power metal band with the same name), this is an album where Lone Wolf have taken garage rock, added a touch of punk energy and smoothed out the rough edges with a smooth indie sheen. The balance across Lone Wolf‘s debut album continually shifts between the competing influences, but they always maintain their trademark sound on a debut album that is well worth checking out if you are a fan of the likes of The Thermals, Superchunk, The Marked Men and The Menzingers.
