Andy Guttercat Takes On Spunk Volcano & The Eruption’s “Platform 3”
Coventry UKʼs Andy Guttercat (Malias / Firefly / Fridayz Angelz / The Guttercats) has released his new single, a high energy cover…
Amnesiatic - Wiretap Records
Odd Robot was built in early 2017, the band was built from elements of the members former bands, including The Maxies and Longfellow, they swiftly perfected their blend of power pop melodies and raucous guitar driven hooks and now the Californian trio have just released their sophomore album, Amnesiatic, via the SoCal based label Wiretap Records. Their latest full length follows on from their 2017 debut, A Late Night Panic, a release that triggered favourable comparisons to Smoking Popes and Alkaline Trio.
Sell Your Soul gets Amnesiatic into gear with a perfect slice of punk driven power pop, the album continues to deliver glorious short sharp hits of melodic punk rock, each as faultless as the last. Each track combines faultless infectious guitar riffs that are powered along by a relentless beat, this is accompanied by vocals that have a slightly wistful and melancholy feel that are underpinned by harmonic backing vocals. The album provides occasional breathers from the energetic power pop with slightly more downbeat numbers such as Cemetery Business Model, Green And Yellow Wires and the closing track, Screech The Turns, but for the most part this is a gloriously energetic fourteen track album.
The comparisons to Alkaline Trio and Smoking Popes are obvious, and if you have any love for either of those bands then I can guarantee that Amnesiatic is an album that you’ll adore, but Odd Robot very much have their own character and style that is present on every cut on Amnesiatic. The combination of sparkling power pop and the popper side of punk is perfectly offset against a slightly darker undercurrent that runs through the album, a combination that creates an impressive and infectious sophomore release. Amnesiatic is a stunning half hour of perfectly pitched power pop punk that, in defiance of the album’s title, delivers earworm melodies that etch themselves permanently into your brain.
