What, who exactly are PI$$ER?
Well if you’re familiar with them you should already know that putting them in any box would be a total waste of your time and energy. But for the uninitiated, let’s just say Punk/Funk/Jazz/Hardcore and for the purposes of this Mini Album, all Dubbed up is also in effect too.
So buckle up and expect nothing less than a ride that takes you to the top of a sheer cliff and drops you off!
Let’s start by saying, Jazz, what the hell is that all about?, I’ve always struggled to get it, but then I’m not of the musician variety, just a simple listener. So when this album kicks off with ‘Nasty Rhythm’ and stuffed in the heart of its scratchy remix wonderfulness, you are thrown a jazz bone and it works, you’re taken aback and have to reassess all your thoughts around why. Then to top it all, the very next track ‘Piss Bazaar’ does it again, throws magical sounds at you, a track that has every 3mins 32secs packed full of just sublime sounds, moments that take me right back to when I was a lad, listening to John Peel on a week night at 10pm, hearing sounds that sometimes you kind of wondered “is this really music” but feeling so happy that you heard it too.
Dub is the main effect on this album, carried out with such simplistic ease, that it’s easy to forget that to make it work this well, is nothing short of genius. ’15 Percent Dub’ and ‘Dub Won’t Repent’ I’m not even going there! Just go listen, with your ears open, it might surprise you, there’s even a fuck off, a punk guitar riff and a foot tapping beat in there!
Ok, the bit I’ve been waiting for, the best of the best ‘Jazz-Funk Wasp’, yes jazz I said it, short and to the point, singles out people like myself, people who think they don’t like something, when actually they do, they just didn’t listen.
‘A Wretched Dub’ swings into action, just as your picking your jaw off the floor, this then stamps on it with its punk guitar core, a guitar sound that’s then given a right royal kicking by everything that surrounds it.
‘More Petrol, More Dancing’ finishes us off, quite literally.
It makes me so happy that bands like this exist, and this album is why!!
Distorted, dubbed, fucked over tracks, that sound so off the scale, it’s nothing short of Punk, doing exactly what it should do, expand the horizon.
Out via Kibou Records & TNSrecords on 26th February
