Manchester Punk Festival Releases 38th Compilation
Manchester Punk Festival have released the 38th volume of their compilation series ahead of this year’s festival. Manchester Punk Festival Vol. 38 is…
Magic Summer - Disconnect Disconnect Records
The Sewer Rats are somewhat confusing in there music versus persona, but this is in a good away, 50’s style and 90’s pop punk working in tandem, playing out of Cologne Germany and touring massively over the past 15 years or so, they have certainly made a huge mark on the live scene.
Band members, Chris Gin, Schorni Walker, Dom Aqua and Archi Appleyard most definitely are not confused though, they seem to take what they love and translate that into an image an a sound which they smash out to audiences throughout the world.
Magical Summer having been released on 30th April, is what looks like their 4th full length, recorded way back in 2018 at T.U.P studios in Italy.
This huge slice of apple pie pop punk has retro written all over it, is played with every second of their live experience poured into it, and with no apologies for doing it with a full on influence packed style. You can hear the Lillingtons, Rancid, Less Than Jake and even Social Distortion fighting there in the background and squeezing every inch of their sound into every crevices of the songs.
With summer on its way, this album has festivals, parties and “Magic Summer” written all over it (see what they did there). We are talking a Bowling For Soup sense of fun, but with Screeching Weasel banging on the door with the message.
Melodic songs like “My Sweet Chun Li” (do wop), “I’m Quitting My Job” and “My Baby Is A Groezrock” are a plenty, but the album does have is share of depth that gives it an edge that does help elevate it above the ridiculous that could easily have taken over, “Nasty Cunt” being to the point and “Down For Life” an ode to subculture, just about ground this album.
All in all, nothing new, but do we always need new? Sometimes it’s cool just to have fun, dance, skate and hang out with friends at a gig.
